MVA Physiotherapy Questions Edmonton
Most MVA physiotherapy questions after a collision are administrative: whether your own insurer pays regardless of fault, how Section B works, whether you need a lawyer, and what to bring. Our Edmonton physiotherapists can start treatment while your claim is being set up.
What Is MVA Physiotherapy?
The Most Common MVA Physiotherapy Questions in Edmonton patients have after a collision often relate to insurance and Section B benefits. Your own insurer may provide coverage regardless of fault, and treatment may need to begin within the applicable timeframe. Approved treatment may be covered under Section B, depending on the circumstances and insurer requirements. You do not necessarily need a lawyer to access Section B benefits.
Most of what people want to know after a collision is administrative rather than clinical, and the administrative answers are genuinely simpler than they look. The summary: your own insurer pays, fault does not decide your treatment, get assessed within 10 days, and you do not need a lawyer to be treated.
The answers below go into each of those.
When Should I See a Physiotherapist After a Car Accident?
Have your claim number, your adjuster’s name and contact, and the date of the collision. If you have not filed yet, call your insurer first — we can start treatment while the claim is being set up, but the claim number needs to follow.
Related questions
Who pays for my treatment?
Your own insurer, under Section B accident benefits, regardless of who caused the collision. We bill them directly, so approved treatment costs you nothing at the clinic.
Do I need to know who was at fault first?
No. Section B is no-fault coverage. Waiting for a fault determination only delays treatment inside a window where early movement matters.
How soon should I be assessed?
Within 10 days of the collision. That is the window for filing notice of claim on an AB-1 form and accessing treatment under the protocols without insurer pre-approval.
Do I need a lawyer?
Not to access Section B treatment. A lawyer becomes relevant for a claim against an at-fault driver, which is separate from how your treatment is funded.
What if I already went to another clinic?
You can change providers. Bring your claim number and details of treatment so far, and we will pick up from where you are rather than restarting the process.
What happens when my treatments run out?
Care can continue with insurer approval, supported by a report from your clinician. Reaching the protocol limit is a paperwork step, not the end of treatment.
Does my collision fall under the new 2027 rules?
Collisions on or after 1 January 2027 fall under Alberta’s Care-First system; earlier collisions are governed by the current rules. Your adjuster can confirm which applies to your claim.
The adjuster is asking for my treatment records. Do I have to provide them?
The insurer receives the reports required under the protocols, which you consent to at the first visit. Requests beyond that are yours to decide on; the clinic will not release records without your written consent.
Can I switch clinics mid-treatment?
Yes. Section B is portable. Vertex will provide a summary to the new clinic on request, and the same applies if you transfer in.
