Vertex is an authorised WCB Alberta provider. If your injury happened at work and a claim is accepted, treatment is billed directly to WCB at no cost to you. Report the injury to your employer and WCB first, then book an assessment.

Work Injury Physiotherapy Assessment And Treatment At Vertex Physiotherapy

An authorised WCB Alberta provider

If your injury happened at work and your claim is accepted, treatment here is billed directly to WCB. There is nothing to pay at the front desk and no receipts to submit afterwards.

In Alberta you can see a physiotherapist without a physician referral, including for a work injury. What you do need is the claim in motion, because that is what the billing attaches to.

The order to do things in

  • Tell your employer as soon as the injury happens — this starts everything
  • Your employer must report to WCB within 72 hours of becoming aware of it
  • Submit your own worker report of injury, by app, online or on paper
  • Book an assessment and bring your claim number if you already have one
  • Your physiotherapist submits their report and the treatment plan

If you do not have a claim number yet

Book anyway. Claims and appointments do not have to move in lockstep, and the first assessment produces documentation the claim needs. Bring whatever you have — employer name, the date and what happened — and the front desk will tell you plainly what the billing position is while the claim is pending, rather than leaving you to find out later.

What we handle for you

Provider reporting to WCB, the treatment plan, progress reports, and communication with your case manager and employer about modified duties. If you are also seeing a physician about the same injury, we coordinate rather than duplicate.

Return to work is part of the treatment

Returning to modified duties generally produces better outcomes than waiting at home for full recovery. That is not an insurer talking point — it is consistent across the return-to-work literature. Your programme is built around the actual physical demands of your job, which is why we ask about them in detail at the first visit.

No. Physiotherapy is directly accessible in Alberta, including for work injuries. What matters is that the claim is reported and in progress.

You can book an assessment. Ask the front desk how billing works while a claim is pending so there are no surprises — the answer depends on your claim’s status, and we will tell you before you are treated, not after.

No. Once you have reported the injury to your employer and WCB Alberta, you can book. Vertex submits the reports WCB needs and treatment is billed to the claim once it is accepted. Bring your claim number if you have one.

Your employer receives information about your work capacity and restrictions, which they need for modified duties. They do not receive your clinical notes. What is shared with WCB is explained to you at the first visit.
