Background

Lymphatic drainage is slow, light work, and it is not the same thing as a deep tissue massage. Karthikeyan assesses what a person is dealing with first — swelling after surgery, swelling in an arm or leg, or general heaviness — and sets the session around that.

He combines manual lymphatic drainage with soft-tissue work and stretching where that suits the person, and works alongside the physiotherapists at Vertex when someone is under both.

Away from the clinic he is outdoors as much as he can be, usually on a trail.
